in Elementary Schools

Remember when you first learned to ride a bike?

Kids love bikes

Our certified League Cycling Instructors (LCIs) have been providing support and guidance to elementary school teachers. Last year we worked in 25 schools in Santa Barbara County. We bring bicycle riding education modules, 4-session programs, in-school, perfectly suited to 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th grade students.

A hearty 'thank you' is due to our financial partners for funding the launch of this life-changing program.

Students learn the importance of properly fitted helmets, how to check their bikes, and how to ride safely, which includes starting & stopping, using hand signals, while following the rules of the road.

Field Trip

Upper grades learn traffic laws and have their first "driving experience" with a bicycle. They practice how to be visible, predictable and how to ride in traffic. The bike program for 6th graders culminates with a field trip on city streets. Learn more in this article from the Santa Barbara Unified School District.

Bike Giveaway

Many students learn to ride at school and would love to practice at home. They can't do it because they don't own a bike. If you have a youth bike collecting dust in your garage, consider donating it to Bici Centro.

I was hesitant at first โ€“ I admit, BUT the bike program was amazing! The kids LOVED it! Erandy actually said, "This was the best day of my life!" Lots of sweaty, happy kids! A BIG thank you for bringing this to us. Looking forward to Mondays now :)
