Bicycle Education in PE (Elementary Schools)

SBBIKE & COAST/SR2S are providing support and guidance to P.E teachers to offer successful 4 weeks in-school 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade physical education bicycle riding education modules in 10 schools around Santa Barbara County.

Students learn the importance of properly fitted helmets, how to check their bikes and how to ride safely which includes starting/stopping, using hand signals and following the rules of the road.

Upper grades learn traffic laws and have their first "driving experience" with a bicycle. They practice how to be visible, predictable and how to ride in traffic. The bike program for 6th graders culminates with a field trip on the streets.
