 Pro Bike/Pro Walk 98 Conference

Photos of the Conference

The Pro Bike/Pro Walk conference held in Santa Barbara September 8-12, 1998, was electric with ideas and wonderful people, but most of the photos just show rooms of people talking. The photos here show some more lively things that happened. Thanks to Robert Bernstein and C.D. Coffey for sharing their shots.

Below are small versions of the photos. Click on the small ones to go to larger ones.

Breakfast in the outdoor courtyard at the DoubleTree Resort, where the conference took place.
The first morning bike ride went to the old Santa Barbara Mission, but it was a drippy foggy morning, thankfully the only wet time during the entire Conference.
The Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition had a staffed information booth in the DoubleTree lobby during the entire Conference.
Start of another morning bike ride outside the DoubleTree Resort. Upwards of 100 bicyclists participated in each of the 12 rides led by Bicycle Coalition members.
Ralph Fertig leads a group of 50 bicyclists to the off-site dinner at the County Courthouse. The route took participants along the beach and palm-lined Cabrillo Boulevard.
Drinks before dinner at the spectacular Santa Barbara County Courthouse. The building was open for participants to view, hear from docents about its history, and climb into the 70-foot tower.
Dinner for 500 at the Courthouse filled the large Sunken Garden. Lights illuminating the entire building came on as twilight faded. People, unwilling to leave, lingered until nearly 10:00 PM.
David Ridenour and his crew of pedicab workers helped carry Pro Bike participants to the Courthouse dinner.
