Santa Barbara Bicycle Film Festival
September 18, 2010
The Santa Barbara Bicycle Film Festival on Saturday, September
18th consists of five showings of bicycling films (see listing below). On top
of all that, the Festival organizer Jim Cadenhead is adding a Bicycle Swap
Meet from 9:00 AM-1:00 PM, product exhibition, and a demonstration bike polo
match. It’s
going to be an awesome day, and we’re
excited to be part of it.

It will all take place at Santa Barbara Junior High school,
721 East Cota Street, Santa Barbara. The films will be screened at the Marjorie
Luke Theatre inside the school. Admission to each program is $10. You can buy

Bicycle Film Festival Schedule
1:00 PM

Bicycle Dreams. 104 minutes.
The powerful true story of the Race Across America, a 3,000 mile bicycle race
that challenges riders to cross the country in just 10 days. They must overcome
searing desert heat, agonizing mountain climbs, and endless open road, while
battling extreme exhaustion and sleep deprivation. But when tragedy strikes
the race, it turns into a soul-stirring journey of courage, perseverence, and

3:00 PM

Constant Movement. 12 minutes. With nothing but rusty
scraps and human willpower, taxi-bike drivers make a way to live and work in
Cuba, despite the labor conditions that oppress them every day. They have created
"the peoples' relief."

BMX at Burnside. 4 minutes. An inside look into the history of the of Portland's
notorious Burnside Skate Park from a BMX bike rider's view. Drugs, violence
and prostitution are just a few hurdles that they had to overcome to make this
DIY project possible.

Macramento. 5 minutes. Macaframa co-director and rider
Colby Elrick presents a fun look at Sacramento riding on and off road . Macramento
features Sacramento and other Northern California notables, including John
Cardiel, Squirrel, Lockedcog Kris, Bradlay, Ted Shred, and James Newman.

RIH. 9 minutes. Founded by the brothers Bustraan in
1921, legendary bicycle manufacturer RIH has sponsored and supplied the Dutch
National team for many years. Since 1973 RIH has been run by Wim van der Kaaij,
who still hand builds track and race bikes in Amsterdam at over 70 years old.

Riding
the Long White Cloud. 44 minutes. Seven professional skateboarders, Rick
McCrank, Silas Baxter Neal, Cairo Foster, John Rattray, Keegan Sauder, Chris
Haslam and Kenny Anderson attempt to cycle New Zealand's North Island in this
beautiful documentary. They experience the Heaven and Hell of cycling New Zealand
while traversing the island in search of skate spots. Watch TRAILER.
5:00 PM

Lucas Brunelle
Line Of Sight. 30 minutes. Lucas Brunelle travels the globe documenting
alleycat races and every year he presents a new film at the BFF. This year
for our tenth anniversary Lucas teams up with Benny Zenga to produce a film
that takes it to another level. Lucas is the undisputed master of documenting
alleycats. From the vantage point of his custom helmet-cam his footage serves
as insight into the best urban riders in the world in their natural element.
Now Benny Zenga turns the camera back on Lucas Brunelle to bring a new dimension
to this rare talent and "international man of mystery." Watch

A New Challenge.
2 minutes. This short by perrennial contributors and friends the Neistat Brothers.
Van challenges his studio manager Oscar Boyson to a bi-unicycle challenge.

Erik
Elstran’s Dragon Shredit! 4 minutes. This dragon rides a bike!

The
Birth of Big Air. 54 minutes. It's about time Mat Hoffman's
story was told—and now it has been done by just the right people. Directed
by longtime friend Jeff Tremaine and produced by Priya Swaminathan, Spike Jonze,
Mark Lewman and Johnny Knoxville, the film pays tribute to this BMX legend.
It includes interviews with supporters and fans, like Evel Knievel. Mat Hoffman
inspires. This film shows us the sacrifice it takes to be one of the greatest

7:00 PM

Anima D'acciaio (Soul of Steel). 11 minutes. A
Portrait of the legendary Italian Frame Builder Giovanni Pelizzoli aka "Ciocc."
Ciocc shares his wisdom and life story while hand building a revolutionary
new frame for urban fixed gear cycling. Ciocc demonstrates that the tradition
and craft of frame building's Golden age can be re-born and push the
technical frontier of Cycling's future. Also feaures Ed "Wonka" La
Forte and Antonio Colombo with an original soundtrack by Blonde Redhead.

Where
Are You Go. 75 minutes. Four months on a bicycle between Cairo, Egypt and
Cape Town, South Africa en route with the Tour d'Afrique, the world's longest
bicycle race and expedition. BFF Alumni the Zenga Bros. and Brian Vernor share
a universal love of the bicycle with Africa's roadside mechanics, sporting
racers and curious strangers. Traveling more than 70 miles per day, 50 racers
and expedition riders experienced the boundless Nubian desert of Sudan, the
great majesty of Victoria Falls, and finally the cold rush of the Atlantic
Ocean. The 7,000 mile expedition is a constant adventure full of playfulness
and mysterious beauty, and is testament to the endurance of human curiosity.

We've Got It On Tape. 5 minutes.
Brendan is recorded playing "solo polo" with microphones all over
his body, bike and mallet. A soundscape of bike polo in action.

Tokyo Jitensha.
1 minute. Bicycling through the city at the speed of light.

On Time. 7 minutes.
This comedy classic short, shown worldwide, marked the debut of director/screenwriter
Ari Taub and captured the spirit of low budget filmmaking in New York City.
Jimmy, a bicycle messenger from the Albatross Courier Company, takes us through
the streets and boroughs of New York to deliver a package "on time".
Braving the perilous city streets, there’s nothing Jimmy can’t
handle, or is there?

Belle Epoch. 3 minutes. Italian cyclist Giuliano
Calore (aka "Cyclist of the Impossible") rides on Europe's
steepest mountain roads playing different musical instruments along the way.

Day
Labor. 10 minutes. A short film about bike messengers, day laborers and outsourcing
gone wild.

Grime Presents. 7 minutes. Two of the most talented
street riders today, Mike Schmitt and Wonka kill it like no others in the
world.

Wolfpack
Hustle: All City Team Race 3. 6 minutes. One Hundred and Eighty racers
formed teams of 5 (minimum one fixed gear per team) to race from the East
to the beach via any route they choose for the city's most coveted prize:
a set of Wolfpack Hustle dog tags. Watch TRAILER.

Tokyo to Osaka. 13 minutes. Twelve amateur American
fixed gear cyclists and their 400-mile journey through the Japanese countryside.

Lucas
