For the last portion of our Traffic Skills 101 class, we mount up and hit the streets. But first we cover some useful maneuvers and riding skills so that you can ride safely. You'll learn to scan behind you while riding in a straight line, as well as some emergency moves like a quick stop and instant turn. Learning good handling skills is key to becoming a safer, more confident cyclist. Then we'll roll out onto the roads of Santa Barbara, stopping intermittently to discuss proper riding procedures.
It is required that you have attended the "Become a Confident Rider" class, as we'll be reinforcing a lot of the material during our group ride around town. You'll also need a working bike and a helmet. Waiver to be completed by all riders.
This course is a pre-requisite for all League Cycling Instructor (LCI) candidates who are planning to get certified during a 20 hour LCI training seminar. Prepare yourself by reading TS101 booklet from the League of American Bicyclists.
The group meets at 506 E Haley St. (SBBIKE headquarters) at 9:00 am, and then rides to Santa Barbara Junior High School par basketball courts to practice our drills. If you arrive late, you can come straight to the Junior High.
Like our other classes, space is limited but a group of 6 is needed to hold a class. Please pre-register!
Course valued at $100 is FREE.
