Join us for our FIRST ANNUAL

Don't miss the bicycling event of the year, our Bike Week Celebration that jumps into a whole week of fun bicycling activity. It's Friday, May 14th, 7:00 PM, at the Chase Palm Park Center, 236 East Cabrillo Boulevard, Santa Barbara. You'll enjoy:

  • No-host bar with wine and beer
  • A fine dinner catered by award-winning Country Catering.
  • Award ceremony to people who have contributed to making bicycling better for us all.
  • Magic Carpet Bike Ride by actor, cycling tourist, and world-class entertainer Willie Weir.

Bicycle Coalition President Ralph Fertig first saw Willie Weir perform at a League of American Bicyclists rally in Rohnert Park, California a few years ago. He was totally blown away by the experience. Here is what he wrote:

"Good bicycle-oriented entertainment is rare, but Willie left me astounded and delighted by his performance. He's a touring cyclist, actor, photographer and writer. He bundles everything into a top-level professional presentation that describes the joys of touring in countries throughout the world. His message is upbeat and endowed with a personal enthusiasm for cycling as a means of meeting people. 'Your bicycle is your passport,' Willie says. 'Don't leave home without it.'"

Willie Weir is coming from Seattle, Washington at our invitation to tell his tales of cycling adventure. You can learn about Willie at his site www.willieweir.com. For those who belong to Adventure Cycling, you are already familiar with Willie's adventures and thoughts from his articles in Adventure Cycling Magazine. Willie won the gold Lowell Thomas Award from the American Society of Travel Writers for his work. He is known to public radio listeners for his commentaries aired on KUOW in Seattle.

Willie has biked over 40,000 miles throughout the world and written a wonderful book Spokesongs about his travels. You can read what others have said about the newest edition of his book at Amazon.com, where book reviews average four and a half stars out of five!

After his performance, Willie will be available to autograph copies of his Spokesongs book.

This great evening of bicycling is only $30 per person. Bicycle Coalition members have been mailed an invitation to the Celebration, and others can phone in a reservation 962-1479 and pick up tickets at the door.
