Join us for our second annual

Don't miss the bicycling event of the year, our Bike Week Celebration that jumps into a whole week of bicycling activity. It's Saturday, May 14th, 6:00 PM, at the Chase Palm Park Center, 236 East Cabrillo Boulevard, Santa Barbara. You'll share the pleasures of:

  • No-host bar with wine and beer served on the outdoor patio
  • A fine dinner catered by award-winning Country Catering.
  • Award ceremony to people who have made bicycling better for us all.
  • The Bad Road: Cycling Turkey by actor, cycling tourist, and world-class entertainer Willie Weir.

Here's what others said about the 2004 Bike Week Celebration dinner event:

  • "I personally think Friday night’s event was great! The location was good, the food was excellent, the attendees were interesting and Willy Weir’s presentation was top-notch. People who did not attend really missed out!" — Wilson Hubbell
  • "Willie put on a very entertaining presentation. And it was fun to share it and bike culture with the other attendees. I am looking forward to next year’s celebration already." — Nancy Mulholland
  • "I thought the event was great. Now that we know we can do it, next year we can advertise it sooner and more broadly. I think the last minute nature of this year’s event is the only reason the event was not sold out." — Chuck Anderson
  • "All was great and we had a good time. Willie was certainly the highlight. The desserts were heavenly. Only compliments all around." — Kathleen Boehm
  • "Dinner was great. As you know, I thought your speaker choice was excellent. Inspirational and entertaining. I am also enjoying his book. I can just hear him talking." — David Madajian
  • "I loved every minute. Willie spun my biking enthusiasm into a tornado with his great delivery and wonderful stories." — Don Lubach
  • I don't have much specific feedback—everything worked great. Willie's presentation made it especially fun and gave a focus to the event. — Dave Bourgeois
  • "Yes, we had a very enjoyable time. Willie’s presentation was inspirational, the food was fine, the wine intoxicating, and the company at our table very pleasant. The price was very reasonable, and the location perfect. I think that this annual event should provide a little more generous recognition of the champions of bicycling advocacy who are the heart and the muscle of the Bicycle Coalition. Greater effort should be made to at least triple the attendance at this event. Our compliments to everyone responsible for making this first annual gala event happen. Good job!" — Gary Nett

Willie Weir is returning from Seattle, Washington at our invitation to tell his tales of cycling adventure. You can learn about Willie at his site www.willieweir.com. For those who belong to Adventure Cycling, you are already familiar with Willie's adventures and thoughts from his articles in Adventure Cycling Magazine. Willie won the gold Lowell Thomas Award from the American Society of Travel Writers for his work. He is known to public radio listeners for his commentaries aired on KUOW in Seattle.

Willie had a 3-month bicycle journey planned for Turkey and a week before he was to leave, US troops invaded Iraq. What did he do? ...he went anyway. In his newest tales of adventure "The Bad Road: Cycling Turkey" Willie will take you down some roads in this amazing country and explore the question, "How do you decide when adventure is worth the risk?"

Willie has biked over 40,000 miles throughout the world and written a wonderful book Spokesongs about his travels. You can read what others have said about the newest edition of his book at Amazon.com, where book reviews average four and a half stars out of five!

After his performance, Willie will be available to autograph copies of his Spokesongs book.

The price for the whole evening is only $30 a person.

It's not too late to reserve. We ordered a few extra dinners on May 11, so can still get you in. What you have to do is email Ralph Fertig, saying how many will be coming, and then pay at the door when you arrive. Do this before noon Friday!
