Why should my kid ride a bike to school?

Physical activities like biking and walking to school improve health and brain activity for school children and adults.

How do I get my student ready to bike to school or after-school programs?

  1. Make sure your bike is in good working order. You can bring it to Bici Centro, a DIY repair shop that is fun and affordable at 434 Olive St.
  2. Make sure your child has a helmet and wears it (anyone under the age of 18 is legally required to wear a helmet).
  3. Look into having your child take a bicycle education class that teaches them how to bike safely.

Where can I send comments or questions about this project?

Contact the Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition (SBBIKE) by emailing or visiting our office/ Bici Centro repair shop at 506 E. Haley Street.
