Volunteer to Distribute 1,000+ Free Lights
WHAT: Our sixth annual light distribution is coming up. And we need you to help Iluminando La Noche (Light Up the Night), especially if you’re bilingual!
WHY: With the time change, it gets dark early. That means more of our community members will soon be biking after dark. Help us ensure that all people traveling Santa Barbara County’s streets by bicycle have lights to increase their safety and ensure they’re in compliance with traffic laws.
The distribution enables us to collect basic data and, thus, better understand the needs of the cycling community as a whole. Volunteer to conduct surveys—in English, Spanish, or both—and you’ll have a great time engaging with community members who commute to work and school by bicycle.
Volunteers also make sure recipients know about a great resource SBBIKE members cherish—Bici Centro, where you can affordably repair you own bicycles with help from skilled mechanics.
WHEN: November 7 to November 11, 2016, from 5 p.m. (except as noted):
- Monday, Nov 7: CARPINTERIA: Carpinteria near the library (will start at 4:30pm)
- Wednesday, Nov 9: WESTSIDE: 628 W. Micheltorena
- Thursday, Nov 10: GOLETA: 5679 Hollister (Goleta Valley Community Center)
- Friday, Nov 11: EASTSIDE: Milpas & Yanonali
HOW: Sign up by clicking on the day you’re available and show up to the location a little before 5 (or 4:30 in Carpinteria) p.m. for an evening of camaraderie and illumination.
Iluminando La Noche is sponsored by SBBIKE, the City of Santa Barbara, Measure A Partner Jurisdictions, and the volunteers of SBBIKE’s Spanish Language Outreach Committee! Event hosts are Allen Construction, Goleta Valley Community Center, and the Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics.
