Tour de Tent is a celebration of the outdoors, sustainable bicycle transportation, and the cycling community. Join a large group of fellow riders for a social-paced, no-drop bicycle tour that ends in a cozy camp-out. This year Tour de Tent is sponsored by REI and coordinated by Traffic Solutions, SBBIKE, and Cycle Cal Coast. The registration form is at the very bottom of this page.
The route is a two-day, 66 mile round-trip ride from downtown Santa Barbara to Foster Park in Casitas Springs, and back to Santa Barbara the next day. For you novices out there, a 33 mile day is much easier than it sounds!
On Saturday we'll stop at Bicycle Friendly Businesses along the ride to have refreshments and dinner before continuing to camp for s'mores and more. (Local breweries are in the forecast!) We're trying to coordinate astronomy activities and an REI camp class session too! In the morning, riders from Ventura County will meet us for breakfast and coffee at our campsite and join us for the ride back north -- to celebrate Cycle Cal Coast and our local Bicycle Friendly Businesses.
What to Bring
Riders will carry water bottles, a sack lunch for Saturday, a few snacks for fuel while riding, and all their own gear for camping -- sleeping pad, sleeping bag, tent or tarp, toiletries/medicine, headlamp, clothes, and camp cup/plate/fork. Our sag wagon will carry water jugs for refills along the ride, cookies and crackers for pit stops, dessert and s'more ingredients for Saturday, breakfast for Sunday, and a dish washing station.
All registrants and interested riders will be invited to a preparation meeting where we discuss what to bring, how to pack it, and what to prepare for. For those of you who are DIY, there will even be a sewing class on May 2nd if you want to make your own bike bag -- it will be led by an experienced Tour de Tent rider who has the best bike setup!
NOTE *Gear does not have to be specialized or expensive, this can be a low cost and simple trip, with the right guidance and preparations.
