During the first hour, PE teachers from Santa Barbara Unified School District will practice bike handling skills demonstrated by certified League Cycling Instructors (LCIs): quick stop, rock dodge, shifting, quick turn...
After a quick review of "Rules of the Road" for safe bicycling, PE teachers will go for a group ride connecting several schools (Adams, La Cumbre, Harding, McKinley, Franklin, Adelante, SBJH and back to Adams). During the ride, PE teachers will discover how to choose the safest biking routes around SB, how to prepare students to ride on the streets/bike paths... They will also discover the walking/biking infrastructure that connects Santa Barbara and what is the City of Santa Barbara long-term vision for better transportation in our community.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own bike & helmet. Limited number of loaner bikes is available. Please contact Education Director if you need one. Wear comfortable clothing, bring a snack & a water bottle.
Waiver to be completed by all riders.
Adult Bicycling Education is supported by Measure A, County of Santa Barbara, City of Santa Barbara, City of Goleta, City of Carpinteria and City of Santa Maria.
