Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition and Bici Centro
REPORTS TO: Operations Manager
PAY RATE: Dependant on Experience
SCHEDULE: 20 hours a week with possibility of full-time
Summary: Responsible for running a highly effective outreach program for Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition’s Programs & Campaigns which will expand SBBIKE’s on the ground presence in local communities. Will support staff in developing creative and engaging outreach content for Advocacy, Education and Community Shop Programs. Will work with existing community groups, underrepresented constituencies, and local supporters to raise the profile of SBBIKE’s work in neighborhoods and shape SBBIKE’s work to reflect local input. Maintaining contacts in neighborhoods, key community centers and schools will be key with the goal of growing participation in the public process and mobilizing supporters of safe and equitable streets. Will also support training SBBIKE volunteers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist SBBIKE in planning for and executing inclusive outreach around neighborhood issues, educational events & SBBIKE’s Bici Centro shop.
Build relationships with, visit and encourage underrepresented populations who express interest in Advocacy, Bici Centro shop, or Education programs.
Attend Meetings and Events to represent SBBIKE and promote our programming.
Create and execute a plan to mobilize volunteers, staff, and community members in building relationships with families.
Use Social Media and SBBIKE Website as outreach tools to further promote SBBIKE and engage communities.
Implement and maintain a system for recording key interactions, gathering contacts, tracking engagement, and following up with contacts using SBBIKE’s resources
Document stories from Community Members with an ear toward transportation needs, for sharing with the public.
Responsible for outreach related logistics at all SBBIKE locations and events; including gathering and transporting outreach materials, scheduling volunteers, and data collection.
Coordinate outreach volunteer needs and scheduling with Operations Director.
Develop, train, and educate volunteers on all outreach efforts, procedures, and philosophies.
Written and conversational fluency in Spanish

Organizational skills, with experience working in an office environment preferred

Confidence speaking to large groups

Strong interpersonal relationship skills
Experience with Nationbuilder or similar a Plus
Microsoft Office Experience preferred, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator Skills a plus
Able to sit or stand, walk and ride a bike throughout the scheduled work shift.
Must be able to perform the essential functions of this job, reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
Able to lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
Must be able to work non-standard hours as public meetings require.

Open Shop Shift Leader

WHAT WE ARE: Bici Centro, a project of the Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition, is a community DIY bicycle repair shop and education center, with the goal of facilitating skill share and increased reliability and safety for Santa Barbara bicycle riders.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: We are hiring shift leaders to facilitate open shop shifts each week.
Between the hours of: 11:30 am and 7:30 pm Tuesday - Saturday
Seasonal position, with potential for longer term hire
Reports to: Shop manager and Executive Director
• operation of cash register and POS system
• greeting and signing in patrons of the shop
• teaching patrons bicycle repair skills
• coordinating and appropriately tasking shop volunteers
• organizing shop pre and post open hours
• Background in bicycle mechanics
• Strong inter-personal skills
• Ability to multi-task and maintain awareness of all happenings in a busy shop
• Background in community based projects, community service, or non-profit work
• Knowledge of Santa Barbara Bicycle Community and safe bicycle riding practices
• Firmly believes in bicycles as a viable form of transportation
• Preferably bilingual in English and Spanish
