Open Streets Organizers would like to invite community groups, individuals and sponsors to sign up by February 28th to participate in the 4th annual Open Streets event scheduled for Saturday, April 1st from 9AM–5PM — this year in Carpinteria.
The goal of Open Streets is to promote public health, active transportation and community by transforming streets to a public park for a day. The last 3 events organized by the Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition, Traffic Solutions and Global Good Impact occurred on Cabrillo Blvd. in Santa Barbara and attracted 20,000 participants to get active in the streets. This year the family friendly event will be held in the neighborhoods and downtown business district of Carpinteria on 8th Street (eastbound from Linden Avenue to Palm Street), 9th street (westbound from Linden Avenue to 7th Street) and Linden Avenue (from 9th Street to the beach) in partnership with the Carpinteria Valley Chamber of Commerce and many local community organizations.
Organizers would like interested groups to sign up and offer a free activity for participants related to fitness, community, and the arts, e.g. yoga and dance. All offerings will take place along the route at one of many planned activity hubs. Registration donations are requested by February 28th to help fund the cost of the event, at the cost of $50 for non-profits and $100 for all others. Sponsors and volunteers are also requested!
