Opportunities abound
Assist Youth Education
Volunteers interested in helping with youth education programs are encouraged to attend a Confident City Cycling class in order to know and be familiar with the curriculum taught by the certified League Cycling Instructors.
As an education assistant, you will help with helmet fitting, setting up courses, mentoring new learners and being a role model during group rides on the streets. Does it sound fun and rewarding? If so sign up!
Teach kids safe riding skillsVolunteer at Bici Centro in Santa Barbara or in Santa Maria
Your Do-It-Yourself bike shops in Santa Barbara or in Santa Maria are always looking for dedicated volunteers, whatever your skill level may be. If you are new, please come during our volunteer day so you can get trained and learn our protocols.
As a volunteer, you will help us organize the shop, work on donated bikes with an experienced mechanic and when you are skilled and confident, we will be able to help other riders. Can you commit for a 2 hour shift? If so, sign up!
Bike valet at the Bowl (Member opportunity)
SBBIKE and the Santa Barbara Bowl provide free bike valet at every concert. As a volunteer, you will help park bikes and get to see a portion of the show. This is a members-only volunteer opportunity; join here, so you can sign up.
Do you speak Spanish?
Since we work in a bilingual environmnent, we are always looking for Spanish speaking volunteers at Bici Centro in Santa Barbara and in Santa Maria, in the schools or in our community events.
Help in the office
Accounting, mailings, errands, phone calls – all the usual stuff – in a busy office environment.
Before volunteering with SBBIKE, be sure to fill out a waiver (online or printable PDF).

Instructor Drop-in Rides
Start a small group ride from the Neighborhood Routes and we will send a certified League Cycling Instructor (LCI) out to assist you. Your kids will gain the confidence they need to ride to school, ride with family and friends and get to some nearby places on their own as the instructor will impart the most important safety aspects of cycling.
Inspire family and friends to ride a bicycle safely for physical and mental health, for transportation and for fun!
Here's how Instructor Drop-In Education works:
- Invite a small group to get together for fun educational rides using one of the Family Walk and Roll routes (2-4 rides max).
*Please keep the group small: minimum 5 kids + at least 1 adult, max 8 kids + at least 2 adults. - Riders must be able to ride in a straight line, know how to brake and control their bike. No training wheels.
- Choose a convenient location and time in your neighborhood to start your ride (duration: 1-2 hrs).
- Please register your ride with the information requested: we'll contact you as soon as possible to schedule your fun outings.
Please Register your Family Here!
All participating families: Please Get Ready!
A parent/guardian of each family must complete and sign a Youth Waiver before the first ride.
If you are the parent/guardian of more than 2 children or would just prefer a paper copy, please download, print and fill out the PDF version of the waiver here. Then turn it in on the day of the first ride.

Family Walk & Roll Longer Routes
LONG RIDES: This is for cyclists who like to log those miles. We mean both that you cover a lot of road, and that after you ride, you want to tell the world. These double black diamond (
) rides aren't for the faint of heart. Please carry plenty of water and a snack to fuel up with along the way.
STRAVA: We recommend getting the Strava app on your phone for these longer routes. Once you have an account, follow Family Walk & Roll and join Club Family Walk & Roll! Now that you have the Strava app, record your rides so you know exactly how much ground you covered, how high you climbed and how fast you went! Then share all that with us on Strava or tag a screenshot with
@familywalkandroll on Instagram and add hashtag #familywalkandroll!
We'll honor riders with the most all-time family miles on our High Mileage Club site.
Special challenges and prizes coming...
Routes 15 miles or more...
Routes 25 miles or more...
Heads up: While our intention is to direct people to utilize neighborhood streets, these longer routes do include bike paths. Consider carrying a mask or bandana for crowded areas or make a detour. Also, most public bathrooms are closed, so bring enough water for your ride and use your own bathroom before you leave the house. Please stay healthy and most importantly, have fun!
